About

Prior to enrolling into the social innovation class at Simon Fraser University, it never occured to me that there were so many people in the world trying to solve these problems. Since joining this class and having exposure, it is really eye opening to see that there are such a large amount of people in the world trying to change it for the better.

Much like this class has done for me so far, I intend to use this blog to spread the awareness of our need of alternative energy. Although this maybe not be as impacting as starving children or fatal diseases, eventually the realization for the need of a more sustainable energy source will hit us hard. In late 2008, the international director of WWF, James Leape, commented that “[i]f our demands on the planet continue to increase at the same rate, by the mid-2030s we would need the equivalent of two planets to maintain our lifestyles.” (Click here for more). Not only is our current energy sources being depleted quickly, the emissions produced by our consumption is harming the environment, most talked about in the media being the depletion of our Ozone layer and increased polution.

That is very disturbing that we are quickly running out of energy to power our live styles, yet, many people are earth has still never experienced life with electricity, something that most of us takes granted. That is why currently, there are lots of researches being done for energy sources that are not only sustainable but also affordable. Unfortunately, these inventions do take lots of funding and endorsers do seek profits, which is why energy in general is still far out of reach for many.

So to sum it all up, this blog is to be used as a quick reference and to spread awareness of the problem of having a lack of alterate energy source that is sustainable, clean and affordable.
